Iran announces cyberpolice units

Iran\'s state TV says the country has launched its first cyber police unit in the latest attempt by authorities to gain an edge in the digital world.

Iran enters the cybersecurity game with a twist. The country has launched cyber police units to defend against cyber attacks, like the Stuxnet computer worm, which Iran says honed in on its uranium enrichment program. But the units will also fight against political opposition on the Web. Iran’s top police chief says it’s part of a “soft war.” The state-run Fars news agency says all Iranian police stations will have cyber cops by early 2012.
