Seven retired admirals and generals are going to leave their jobs as military consultants. USA Today reports the retirees, known as “senior mentors,” would rather leave their jobs than comply with new regulations that require them to report outside income. An investigation by the newspaper found that 80-percent of the mentors had ties to military contractors which might have created a conflict of interest. There are 158 “senior mentors” who are paid as much as $440 per hour to offer advice on war plans and weapons systems.
