DHS cracks down on identity theft ring

Two Vietnamese students in Minnesota were part of a larger Vietnam-based ring

The Homeland Security Department is going after a Vietnam-based criminal ring that uses stolen credit card numbers and identity theft to reap hundreds of millions of dollars. ComputerWorld reports, agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided the home of two Vietnamese exchange students in Minnesota. They seized both computers and documents. Affidavits filed in support of search warrants detail how the crime ring works. The two students sold video games and Apple gift card on e-Bay. They sent customers products purchased with hacked credit card numbers. The investigation, dubbed Operation eMule, has been run since 2009 by the DHS cyber crimes center.
