Quadrennial Defense Review aimed to eliminate politics

Former National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley explained how the panel tried to reach a consensus in defense strategies.

Getting members of any congressional panel to completely eliminate partisan politics from their work can be difficult. But that’s precisely what leaders of the Quadrennial Defense Review Independent Panel set out to do.

The final report, issued last summer, offers an assessment of the assumptions, strategies, and risks facing the Defense Department.

Stephen Hadley, former national security advisor, co-chaired the Panel. Hadley told Federal News Radio that the panel’s leadership wanted a consensus report – not just a bi-partisan effort.
