Son of the Future Combat System rolls on

The Army has kicked off the competition to develop son of the Future Combat System.

The Army will make a new run at acquiring a 21st century ground combat vehicle. NextGov reports, a request for proposals has gone to industry for a kind of do-it-all vehicle that could be reconfigured in the field. The vehicle would be usable for everything from counterinsurgency to head-to-head combat. The Army is looking for a price tag of $10 million per copy and operating costs of $200 an hour. An earlier Future Combat System vehicle program was canceled last year by Defense Secretary Gates.
