Trauma treatment translated from the battlefield

We talk with Dr. John Holcomb about advancements made in surgery on the battlefield.

Almost since the beginning, the technologies developed for warfare have eventually benefited peace-time pursuits. The same is true for the injuries sustained by soldiers. Medical techniques developed on the battlefield result in new ways of helping everyone. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are no exceptions. Dr. Holcomb is a former commander of the Army’s Institute of Surgical Research at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
