FCC considers anti-botnet cyber quarantine

ISPs could temporarily suspend the account, restrict traffic, or even cut off Internet access for the customers who don\'t address the problem.

Botnets are armies of infected computers, controlled by criminals, often used to perform illegal activities. Now the Federal Communications Commission is cracking down. Softpedia reports that the FCC is analyzing ways to tackle the botnet problem and is considering an opt-in code of conduct for Internet Service Providers. The code would set a standard of behavior for ISP’s to follow when they find a user has been infected. They could temporarily suspend the account, restrict traffic, or even cut off Internet access for the customers who don’t address the problem. The agency is working on a Cybersecurity Roadmap to pinpoint weaknesses in the nation’s Internet infrastructure and identify threats to computer networks.
