The Federal Protective Service is in charge of keeping hundreds of federal facilities safe. But it has come under fire in recent years because of key failures that were identified in a series of alarming reports by the Government Accountability Office. You might recall that GAO investigators were able to smuggle bomb-making materials into 10 high-security federal buildings that were guarded by FPS. Now that the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has approved legislation to reform FPS, their union says they’re hopeful. We talked with AFGE local 918 president David Wright about the legislation, what it will do for FPS, and what happens next.
