October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Chairwoman of the House Homeland Security Committee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity and Science and Technology, says that she’ll host a series of roundtables to help educate the public on how to protect themselves online. She says that cybersecurity vulnerabilities can significantly impact national and economic security. The Department of Homeland Security logged nearly 5,500 cyber attack incidents in 2008. A 2007 Government Accountability Office report estimates the total business losses caused by cyber attacks in the U.S. exceed $117 billion every year.
