Computer security experts are studying a scary new cyber weapon: a software smart bomb. This one appears to be designed to find and sabotage a nuclear facility in Iran. Malicious software called “Stuxnet” is able to recognize a specific facility’s control network and then destroy it. The Economic Times reports the malware was first discovered in June. It was tailored for Siemens systems that are used to manage water supplies, oil rigs and power plants. But it traveled on USB memory sticks and was able to get on other systems without having to use the Internet. The worm has been found on systems in India, Indonesia and Pakistan, but the heaviest infiltration appears to be in Iran.
