Kindles, iPads drafted for battlefield testing

The Army is testing consumer technology to see how well it performs on the battlefield.

Kindles and iPads might be coming to a battlefield near you. The Army is testing pieces of popular consumer technology to see if they are applicable to field situations. NextGov reports, the tests are being conducted at the Future Force Integration Directorate at Fort Bliss, Texas. One promising use is replacing paper instruction manuals for equipment. Rather than reprinting manuals every time there is a change, the Army could push new electronic versions over the network, Army officials predict.
