Defense Authorization under seige

Senate Democrats are moving to end the ban on gays serving openly in the military, by adding a repeal to the 2011 defense authorization bill. The Pentagon is conducting a review of how ending the ban would affect the military. Republicans say a repeal is premature. The authorization bill would provide more than $700 billion in Defense spending in fiscal 2011.
