Does the Defense Department have too many chiefs to be efficient? A new plan from Defense Secretary Robert Gates could slim the number of senior military officers by at least 50. It could also trim 150 senior civilian positions. It's all part of the effort to save money. Winslow Wheeler is Director of the Straus Military Reform Project at the Center for Defense Information. He told the Federal Drive the proposed reductions of senior officers might not be enough.

Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA) also joined the Federal Drive this morning with his thoughts on the proposed DoD spending cuts, specifically the shutdown of U.S. Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia. You can find more information and hear his interview here.
