Crafting your family tree just got a bit easier. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (or USCIS) has partnered with the National Archives to retain millions of immigrant registration files. Before this deal, these so called “A” or “Alien Files” were considered temporary and could be purged after 75 years. The files are unique in that they may contain pictures, foreign birth certificates and interview transcripts and recordings. Greg Smith is the Associate Director and Chief of the USCIS directorate for National Security and Records Verification.
