  • When Foodie and the Beast think “Mardi Gras,” we think (when we’re not thinking “New Orleans!”) the Annual Clarendon-Courthouse Mardi Gras Parade, now in its 16th year. Parade Director Matt Hussman is in, along with New Orleans native David Guas, celebrated chef/owner of Bayou Bakery, cookbook author and host of the Travel Channel’s “American Grilling,” to give us the scoop on the parade and all the associated doings at and near Bayou Bakery.
  • Remember the old strip center on Rockville Pike with the Toys R Us? It’s gone, replaced by the glorious Pike and Rose, a mixed-use development that now includes two new restaurants from Lettuce Entertain You: Summer House Santa Monica, a California-inspired good and good-for-you restaurant, and Stella Barra, featuring handmade artisanal pizzas. Chefs Jeff Mahin and Francis Brennan are in to tell us all about them.
  • That frozen yogurt shop on 7th Street is gone, and in its place is a cool, new Viennese-inspired coffee and pastry shop. The shop’s executive pastry chef, Lindsey Meehan, and GM, Tracy Wilson are in with tastes and talk of Penn Quarter’s Bakers and Baristas.
  • We say, “whiskey” and you say, what, Ireland? Well, how about “Japan.” Correct! Since the 1920’s, Japan has been distilling amazing whiskeys, and Daikaya Izakaya’s new beverage program director, Jamie MacBain, bar manager Jameson Huckaba and chef/owner Daisuke Utagawa are in with lots of awesome samples of their impressive whiskey program.
