With just weeks before the end of the year, the General Services Administration is making some big changes to Federal Acquisition Service team.

Ed O’Hare, after 38 years of government service, will retire after the New Year as the Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Technology Services.

Taking over for O’Hare on Jan. 16 is Mary Davie, current assistant commissioner of FAS’ Office of Assistance Acquisition Services.

Davie was a “natural choice” to fill the position for ITS, said Steve Kempf, federal acquisition service commissioner at GSA, in an interview with the DorobekINSIDER.

“She’s had a lot of experience. She understands the industry. She understands GSA. She has a real innate understand of the customer needs,” Kempf said of Davie.

Davie began her career with GSA in 1989. She pioneered the use of social media in the acquisition process, according to a memo from Kempf to staff.

Davie’s agenda will include agencies’ transition to networks, cloud computing, schedule changes and government-wide acquisition contracts, such as Alliant.

“Mary’s contacts and her energy will improve performance in each of those programs, especially with her emphasis on customer service,” Kempf said.

In other position, Joe Jeu, assistant commissioner for FAS’ General Supplies and Services, is leaving GSA to go to another federal agency. Bill Sisk, the FAS Southeast Sunbelt Region commissioner, will act as the new GSS assistance commissioner effective Jan. 2.
