Arlington County, Va., officials have taken an ill woman found Friday in a Pentagon parking lot to a local Virginia hospital.

The woman was found at 9:10 a.m. (EDT) vomiting in the Pentagon South lot.

“During the response, the individual indicated that she had recently visited Africa,” Lt. Col. Tom Crosson, a Defense Department spokesman, said in a release. “Out of an abundance of caution, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic was suspended around the South Parking lot.”

The Arlington County Fire Department was notified and responded with emergency medical aid and a Hazmat response team.

DoD says lanes 7-23 in the Pentagon South lot will remain restricted until further notice. The woman was found by police near lanes 17-19, according to DoD. The Pentagon has also closed the Corridor 2 entrance to the building.

The sick woman was initially transported to Virginia Hospital Center but did not leave the ambulance. She was then taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Arlington County has activated its Emergency Operations Center and a Joint Information Center to manage the incident.
