The United States has announced its partially lifting its ban on sales of weapons to Vietnam. The goal is to help the country maintain its maritime security. The move is intended to support Vietnam’s ability to defend itself in the South China Sea, as China becomes increasingly assertive. Secretary of State John Kerry informed Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh of the U.S. decision while they met in Washington.
