The Defense Department’s audit and business practices have come under scrutiny of late.

The House Armed Services Committee has created a special panel to reform the Pentagon’s financial management systems, while DoD has struggled for decades to produce a “clean” audit.

Al Tucker, the executive director of the American Society of Military Comptrollers spoke to In Depth with Francis Rose and provided some context for the ongoing efforts to track and control costs in the defense community.

Tucker, who served as the Pentagon’s deputy chief financial officer throughout the 1990s, discussed the new panel as well as the recent allegations of a major contractor overcharging for parts.
