Title of Position: WTOP Sports Reporter(on-call)
Reports To: Director of Traffic, Transit and Sports
Hours: On-Call, Evenings and Weekends
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
DEPARTMENT:Programming
Closing Date: March 5, 2013 or until filled
LOCATION: 3400 Idaho Ave. N.W. Washington, DC

POSITION SUMMARY:

Participate in all aspects of creating a radio show, from initial concept to final delivery, including booking guests, directing on-air talent and working the soundboard.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • 3-4 years professional broadcast experience
  • Strong interest in local professional and college sports
  • Excellent radio production/voicing skills
  • Ability to operate board equipment, ENCO , ENPS, Adobe Audition, ISDN
  • Thorough understanding of FCC guidelines regarding compliance with rules including indecency, profanity, payola/plugola, and contesting
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Ability to function in a team environment
  • Ability to work established schedule and other hours as needed, nights and weekends

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
  • Assertive, communicative, inquisitive
  • Sports junkie

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to manipulate computer keys and general office equipment (telephone, copier, calculator, etc.) for extended periods of time
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly and follow both oral and written direction
