Washington, D.C. – Federal News Radio 1500 AM today was awarded by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) with its first Regional Edward R. Murrow.

FederalNewsRadio.com was recognized as the Region 12 winner for best “Broadcast Affiliated Website” among large-market radio stations. The station will now go on to compete in the same category on the national level against the winners from the other 13 regions. The winner of the National Edward R. Murrow Award for best “Broadcast Affiliated Website” will be announced in June.

Lisa Wolfe, Program Director of Federal News Radio, said, “We are so proud of this award because it’s a testament to the benefits of a converged newsroom. To quote my Web Manager Julie Ziegler, ‘One part does not succeed without the other; the web works with the on-air teams who work with the reporters, who work with the web.’ And the result is dynamic, developed, and fully integrated product.” The highly coveted Murrow Awards were first established in 1971 in honor of Edward R. Murrow and his vast journalistic accomplishments. They have since become one of the most prestigious honors in the news industry. Annually presented by the RTDNA, the Edward R. Murrow Awards recognize outstanding achievements in electronic journalism on the regional and national level.

In 2011, FederalNewsRadio.com was redesigned to be the more accessible and interactive page it is today. The new design created a streamline of information where visitors can retrieve comprehensive coverage including agency specific news and critical information more quickly and easily. The website has received numerous accolades over the past couple of years including a 2012 National Headliner Award.
