The federal government spends $500-600 billion annually on grants and nearly every department has a major grants program. But just how efficient the grants process is, is up for debate.

As part of Federal News Radio's special report, Rise of the Money People, the Federal Drive's Tom Temin and Emily Kopp spoke with Tim Lawler, director of the grants management practice at Grant Thornton and former director of financial management at the FAA, about how to streamline the grants process.
