The FBI appointed Kevin Perkins, a 26-year bureau veteran, to become its next associate deputy director.

Perkins will replace Thomas Harrington, who is set to retire from the FBI after more than 27 years of service as a special agent, manager and executive. Harrington plans to pursue a position in the private sector, according to an FBI press release.

Perkins currently serves as executive assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal Cyber Response and Services Branch. He has also served as the agency’s chief financial officer. In that position he managed budget formulation, the appropriations process, procurement, financial audits and other money matters. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Perkins began his service to the FBI as a special agent in January 1986. He served the Kansas City and Baltimore divisions, investigating and supervising white-collar crime and public corruption. He was later appointed special agent in charge of the Baltimore division.

“In his new role, Kevin will be responsible for the key areas of personnel, budget, administration, and infrastructure,” FBI Director Robert Mueller said in the release. “He brings more than 26 years of bureau experience to the position, as well as a track record as an effective leader. I have every expectation that he will continue to build upon our core business functions, with a keen focus on critical administrative matters and strategic reform.”

Perkins will assume his new responsibilities in mid-July.
