The FBI and U.S. Attorney General’s Office received an award for innovation in cyber law enforcement for crippling a botnet that’s been infecting computers for nearly a decade, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Through a restraining order, five Coreflood botnet command and control servers were seized and swapped with government servers halting further damage to millions of computers.
A disable command was then sent to the infected machines. The actions taken are the first of their kind.
