The FBI has arrested two hackers for online theft of e-mail addresses and other personal information. Andrew Auernheimer and Daniel Spitler were trolls who allegedly hacked AT&T servers to get information about 120,000 iPad users. They developed a program called iPad 3G Account Slurper. The program tricked applications on AT&T’s wireless network into giving up iPad user information. The two were charged with conspiracy and possession of personal information. The complaint also quotes an article published on Gawker.com that contended the e-mail addresses of film mogul Harvey Weinstein, then-White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Diane Sawyer of ABC News were among those lifted from AT&T’s servers.
