WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorney General Eric Holder says the Justice Department will begin posting monthly lists of Freedom of Information Act requests to the department's three highest offices.

Holder said Monday that the lists for the offices of the attorney general, the deputy and associate attorneys general will publicly identify the subject matter and the disposition of requests.

The change follows a year in which backlog at those offices rose from 2010 _ up from 275 to 372 requests pending at the end of September.

Holder also says the department will introduce a new way for the public to submit FOIA requests to the agency's senior leadership offices online, and to track these requests at any time.

His comments came during Sunshine Week, when news organizations promote open government and freedom of information.
