In a recent report, the Government Accountability Office found the agency is having trouble with its Information Reporting and Document Matching program. The program was designed to bolster the agency's ability to quickly and automatically compare sources of tax information.
However, GAO found that the agency has not followed best practices for justifying the program's budget — which is projected at $115 million for the five years beginning this fiscal year.
Mike Brostek, the director of tax issues at GAO, joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss GAO's recommendations and what other agencies can learn from the latest report.
