The development of the Smart Grid, the power grid of the future, will provide even more green benefits than originally imagined. In addition to the electricity savings the country will see when the Grid is in use, a new report shows the Grid could help cut carbon emissions by 12 percent by the year 2030. Rob Pratt, Electrical Power Systems Integrator for the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, said that's the equivalent of 66 coal power plants worth of emissions.
