The Navy may be rethinking plans to acquire a cutting-edge warship. The service has assigned high-ranking officers to a council. They will study problems with the Littoral Combat Ship program.

The ships are supposed to be able to sail in shallow water and ward off various threats from submarines to pirates. But internal reviews have revealed serious problems with the first vessel. The USS Freedom is scheduled to sail to Singapore in the spring.
