NSA developing cyber guidelines

The National Security Agency is developing cyber guidelines.

The Federal Times reports the agency plans to apply them to its systems first, then encourage other agencies to use them.

The agency has not said whether contractors would have to follow the guidelines too, or just be asked to do so.

The document is based on a list of 20 cybersecurity controls developed by an independent panel, according to the Times.

They emphasize continuous monitoring because periodic reports aren't enough.
