The application of knowledge discovery within the cloud is immensely powerful, but not inbuilt. We are collectively moving past the question of "what is cloud computing", and swiftly moving towards "how does the cloud enable advanced analysis against massive volumes of data?" With industry and government leveraging multiple clouds, how do we successfully share and search large collections of data across systems, departments, and geographies? Organizations will continue to discuss and better understand the analytic power and economies of cloud computing, in the sense of data storage, sharing, and management; but we are quickly discovering that creating knowledge from data is more than just a discussion of technology. It's a discussion of what can be accomplished when massive data and cloud computing efficiencies combine to make advanced analysis and innovation possible.

Chris Kelly

Mr. Kelly is a Senior Vice President with Booz Allen Hamilton based in Herndon, Virginia and is the leader for the firm's teams serving the Department of Justice and federal law enforcement programs. He is currently working with his team to lead service delivery into the Department of Justice and component agencies, i.e., FBI, DEA, Bureau of Prisons, and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. He also leads our Center of Excellence on Advanced Analytics. At Booz Allen, we have created an Analytics team of more than 5,800 staff focused on supporting clients as they move from data to decisions. Mr. Kelly's role is to work with this group to foster and develop innovative offerings at the intersection of big data and computing. Mr. Kelly holds MS and BS degrees in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University.

Michael Byrne
Geographic Information Officer
Federal Communications Commission

Byrne is the former GIO of the State of California and an expert in the design, development, implementation, and use of GIS for research and policy. He has served as chair of the California GIS Council, is a member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee, and serves on the board of directors for both GreenInfo Networks and the National States GIS Council.

Byrne holds a Masters in geography from the University of California at Davis and is a certified GIS professional. He previously served as the e-Services program manager for the California Department of Public Health and as the enterprise GIS architect for the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development.

Jeff Jonas
Chief Scientist
IBM Entity Analytics Group

Jeff Jonas is Chief Scientist, IBM Entity Analytics Group and an IBM Distinguished Engineer. The IBM Entity Analytics Group was formed based on technologies developed by Systems Research & Development (SRD), founded by Jonas in 1984, and acquired by IBM in January, 2005.

Prior to the acquisition Jonas lead SRD through the design and development of a number of unique systems including technology used by the Las Vegas gaming industry. One such innovation played a pivotal role in protecting the gaming industry from aggressive card count teams. The most notable known as the MIT team featured in the book "Bringing Down the House", and recent movie "21." This work is frequently featured in documentaries appearing on, the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel and the Travel Channel.

Following an investment in 2001 by In-Q-Tel, the venture capital arm of the CIA; SRD began playing a role in America's national security and counterterrorism mission. One such contribution includes an analysis of the connections between the individual 9/11 terrorists. This link analysis is now taught in universities and has been widely cited by think tanks and the media, for example, an extensive one-on-one interview with Peter Jennings that aired on ABC PrimeTime.

Jonas designs next generation technology that helps organizations better leverage their enterprise-wide information assets. With particular interest in real-time "sensemaking" these innovative systems fundamentally improve enterprise intelligence which makes organizations smarter, more efficient and highly competitive.

Jonas' work has received wide media attention from the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, to Fortune Magazine, MSNBC and National Public Radio. A highly sought after speaker, Jonas travels the globe discussing innovation, national security, and privacy with government leaders, industry executives, leading global think tanks, privacy advocacy groups, and policy research organizations. He is a Member of the Markle Foundation Task Force on National Security in the Information Age, a Board Member of the US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), on the EPIC Advisory Board, a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and a Distinguished Engineer of Information Systems (adjunct) at Singapore Management University. Jonas periodically testifies on privacy and counterterrorism in such venues as the Department of Homeland Security's Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee, and other federally convened commissions.

David Mihelcic
Chief Technology Officer
Defense Information Systems Agency

David M. Mihelcic is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). As CTO, he serves as the Agency's senior authority on scientific, technical and engineering matters. Mr. Mihelcic is responsible for defining DISA's overarching technical strategy for synchronizing Agency's programs and services with the Department of Defense's net-centric transformation.

Prior to his appointment as CTO, Mr. Mihelcic served as the Deputy Program Director and Chief Executive Engineer for the Global Information Grid Bandwidth Expansion (GIG-BE) Program. Mr. Mihelcic was the ultimate technical authority for this critical, $877 million expansion of DoD terrestrial communications and was responsible for defining the GIG-BE architecture and leading all technical aspects of the Program.

Previously, Mr. Mihelcic served as the Chief Executive Engineer for the Defense Information System Network (DISN), Commander of the Center for Horizontal Integration, and Deputy Chief Executive Engineer for Information Processing at DISA. Prior to his appointment to the Senior Executive Service at DISA in 1999, Mr. Mihelcic headed the Network Security Section of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and has also worked in private industry as a Senior Consultant with SRI Consulting.

Mr. Mihelcic is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. (Current as of January 2006)

Chris Nissen
National Security Analysis Group
MITRE

Christopher Nissen is currently a Consulting Engineer in the National Security Analysis Group with the MITRE Corporation, a not-for-profit Federally-Funded R&D Center serving in the National Interest. He has over 22 years of experience in specialized communications techniques, strategic assessment, and intelligence analysis serving several Defense and Intelligence organizations. Chris has also served as Director of the Communications and Networking Technical Center, leading a division of over 200 engineers in a diverse portfolio of programs and technology development spanning microelectronics to satellite communications. Some of his accomplishments include putting forth an original vision for the development of an anti-jam capability for the nation's Global Positioning Satellite system, and the development and implementation of several special communications techniques. Most recently, Chris is helping to define and realize the development of massive data analytical systems for a variety of USG applications. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Toledo.

Mike Olson
Chief Executive Officer

Mike was formerly CEO of Sleepycat Software, makers of Berkeley DB, the open source embedded database engine. Mike spent two years at Oracle Corporation as Vice President for Embedded Technologies after Oracle's acquisition of Sleepycat in 2006. Prior to joining Sleepycat, Mike held technical and business positions at database vendors Britton Lee, Illustra Information Technologies and Informix Software. Mike has Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
