Airmen fly high with iPads

About 700 airmen just received iPads to use as electronic flight bags.

Airmen in Little Rock, Ark., are flying a little lighter these days.

About 700 of them just got iPads to use as electronic flight bags. The Airmen will use the tablets instead of hard-copy flight publication systems that weigh about 70 pounds.

Officials said the Air Force spends more than $20 million a year for flight paper. If iPads can replace the loads of paperwork, it could save the service a lot of money.

Right now, the Airmen are using iPads in a six-month trial. The base plans to expand use of the tablet devices in December.
