Raytheon wins $21M Air Force contract for combat ID system

The system is to identify other combat units and prevent fratricide.

Raytheon has landed a nearly $21 million contract with the Air Force to provide secure communications for combat systems force identification.

The vice president of the Raytheon Network Centric Systems Integrated Communications Systems says that the goal of this enhanced technology — is to prevent fratricide.

The KIV-77 is a cryptographic device for combat identification.
