The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System, which was fielded by contracting giant Raytheon, has been rolled out at the weather service’s Omaha Weather Forecast Office — the first of a planned 135 NWS sites that will eventually do so.
Don Berchoff, the science and technology director at NWS, joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss how the agency got the program up and running.
It’s hoped the new system will allow NWS to reduce IT costs and allow for greater collaboration between forecast offices.
