(AP) - SAFER SITE: Federal prosecutors say Alpha Natural Resources has cut its accident rate in the six months since a landmark $210 million settlement that spared the company criminal charges over a mine explosion that killed 29 workers.
MASSEY MESS: The April 2010 explosion killed 29 men in the mine owned by Massey Energy. It led to the retirement of Massey's CEO and criminal charges against a superintendent and security chief.
RIGHT TRACK: U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Alpha is making "pretty substantial progress" as it tries to overhaul the Massey Energy mines it acquired last summer.
