Managers of the government’s IT infrastructure are constantly working on upgrades to defend from outside attacks. Two leaders whose teams are performing such upgrades are Richard Hale, Chief Information Security Executive at the Defense Information Security Agency, and Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, Chief Information Officer of the Army.

Mr. Hale expresses concern about software fragility – the ease with which software can be penetrated and become an access point for network intrusions. He believes that government can – and should – become a better customer by demanding vendors produce less fragile products.

Lt. Gen. Sorenson says that he’ll be going to Congress soon to create dialog with leaders on the Hill to collaborate on changes to acquisition processes. He also talks about “Apps for the Army,” and how Forge.mil dovetails with the Apps mission.
