Jim Flyzik is the President of TheFlyzikGroup www.theflyzikgroup.com . The company specializes in Strategic Business Consulting, Performance Based Contracting Consulting and Training and Thought Leadership media events. The company assists small, medium and large companies in providing world-class government services. Jim also serves as the Chairman of the Information Technology Association of America Committee on Homeland Security. Jim also hosts the monthly radio program, The Federal Executive Forum on WFED 1500 AM and www.federalnewsradio.com .
Jim served over 27 years in the federal government. He served as Senior Advisor to Governor Ridge in the White House Office of Homeland Security (OHS). He provided advice to OHS on the National Strategy and Information Management in support of the OHS mission. From February 1998 until December 2002, Jim also served as the Vice Chair of the Federal Government CIO Council overseeing numerous governmentwide IT initiatives. He was also a member of the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board.
Prior to this, from August 1997 until April 2002, Jim was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Systems and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Department of the Treasury. He provided oversight, strategic planning and management direction on over $3.0 billion in annual information technology and information infrastructure programs within Treasury and its fourteen Bureaus. Jim also served as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Management for the Treasury Department from January 20, 2001 until February 8, 2002. In that role he provided oversight of all Treasury bureaus and served as the principal policy advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on matters involving the internal management of the Department and its bureaus. Jim received the Secretary Certificate of Appreciation on February 12, 2002 for his efforts during this transition period.
Prior to his Treasury positions, Jim worked for 15 years at the U.S. Secret Service where he held key IT management positions, including the Chief of the Communications Division, providing world class telecommunications in support of Secret Service tactical and operational requirements.
Jim served as Team Leader on Vice President Gore's National Performance Review (NPR) Information Technology Team. Following this assignment, he was selected as Chairman of the Government Information Technology Services Working Group, to implement the NPR Information Technology recommendations and coordinate the government services portion of the National Information Infrastructure (NII). He was given the prestigious Eagle Award as the government information technology executive of the year in 1994, a Meritorious Presidential Rank Award in 1995, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award for Excellence in Information Technology in 1996, the AFFIRM Award for Outstanding Service to the Citizens in 1997, the Industry Advisory Council Award for Special Achievements and Leadership in 1997, the AFFIRM IRM Executive of the Year Award in 1998, and the Distinguished Rank Executive Award from President Clinton in 1999. In 2001 the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils presented him the John J. Franke award for outstanding government service. In March 2002, Jim was selected by the Federal CIO Council to receive the Azimuth Award as the Government Executive of the Year.
Jim has extensive public speaking experience and frequently serves as a featured speaker at industry events. He has developed, and currently teaches part-time, a graduate level course on Information Systems Security and Risk Assessment at the University of Maryland. Jim was given the Stanley J. Drazek Excellence in Teaching Award in 1998 by the University of Maryland.
Jim has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Computer Science and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maryland with an area of concentration in Information Systems Management.
Dr. Doug Fridsma
Acting Director of Interoperability and Standards
U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
Dr. Doug Fridsma is the acting director of the Office of Interoperability and Standards in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. He is currently on leave from the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Arizona State University and from his clinical practice at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. Dr. Fridsma completed his medical training at the University of Michigan in 1990 and his PhD in Biomedical Informatics from Stanford University in 2003. His research interests include the development of computational tools to study patient safety clinical work processes and methods to improve model-driven standards development processes. He has served on the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) Board of Directors from 2005-2008 and was appointed to the HIT Standards Committee in 2009. He recently resigned from the HIT SC to become the acting director of the Office of Interoperability and Standards at ONC.
Michael S. Weiner

EHR Way Ahead, Military Health Systems
U.S. Navy Capt. Michael S. Weiner is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and attended medical school at
the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a board certified Internal Medicine physician, holds a
masters degree in Management and a masters degree in Information Systems Technology from George
Washington University. He is Defense Acquisition University Level III trained, is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management (CPHIMS), and has been certified as a Chief Information Officer
(CIO) by the General Services Administration.
Capt. Weiner is currently serving as the Director of the Military Health System Electronic Health Record Way Ahead Planning Office. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of the next generation of the Department of Defense's (DoD) Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. The EHR Way Ahead Planning Office was established to transform the current Military Health System into a more interoperable and agile clinical infrastructure that will continue to provide world class care to the military's 9.6 million valued beneficiaries while creating a more intuitive and efficient process for healthcare providers. The EHR Way Ahead Planning Office will support over 77,000 active clinical users, cover every time zone, and will be used by medical clinicians in all fixed and deployed Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) globally.
Prior to assuming his current position, Capt Weiner's experience includes serving as the Deputy Program Manager (DPM) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS), the Director of Information Technology Plans and Policy, the Director of IT Governance and Enterprise Architecture for the Chief Information Officer of Navy Medicine at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED). As a plank owner of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC), CAPT Weiner served as the Senior Medical Officer to more than 200 medical departments supporting 40,000 sailors worldwide in support of ongoing military operations. In addition to leveraging IT capabilities within the healthcare arena to include voice recognition with the Navy Theater Electronic Medical Record and digitalizing healthcare records for contingency operations worldwide, his team also created and globally deployed "blow out injury" kits that provide Service Members immediate care during deployment at the point of injury. His team's medical work was praised by the House Appropriations Committee and has become the standard for many international forces. As the Director of Ambulatory Care at Yokosuka Naval Hospital in Japan, Capt Weiner brought significant business process transformation to Japan's busiest outpatient healthcare setting, resulting in unprecedented patient and clinician satisfaction.
He is an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association and the American Telemedicine Association, and is the military representative to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Board. He has received numerous awards from the Navy, including two Meritorious Service Medals, an Air Medal, an Air Medal Single Strike Award, Navy Commendation Medals and a Navy Achievement Medal.
Dr Stephen Ondra, MD
Senior Policy Advisor for Health Affairs
Senior Policy Advisor for Health Affairs Department of Veterans Affairs In 2009, Dr. Stephen Ondra was appointed as Senior Policy Advisor for Health Affairs in the Department of Veterans Affairs by President Obama. Prior to that, he served on the Veterans Affairs group in the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team and the Campaign Health Policy and Veteran's Policy committees.
In addition to serving many years in the military, Dr. Ondra has worked at the University of Michigan and at Illinois' Northwestern University. He also chaired the Medical Device and Technology Committee at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was promoted to Professor of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Ondra has also worked with several Government agencies including: The Scientific Advisory Board for the Defense Spinal Cord and Column Injury Project for the Department of Defense and The Medical Coverage Advisory Committee with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. His medical expertise has allowed him to advise and discuss health policy matters with members of Congress, Cabinet Members and foreign government leaders.
Director, Disability Software Development & Support, Office of Systems
Social Security Administration
Justine Piereman is a Director and Program Manager for Health Information Technology within the Office of Disability Systems at the Social Security Administration. In this capacity, Ms. Piereman manages and coordinates all agency-wide systems strategic and tactical efforts pertaining to Health IT. Prior to joining Social Security, Ms. Piereman spent time with the Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin, giving her both public and private perspectives of the IT industry. Ms. Piereman holds an MBA from Loyola College of Maryland and is Project Management Professional (PMP)-certified.
Director of Federal Business Development
Tom Conway is McAfee Security's Director of Federal Business Development. In his role, he shapes McAfee's going forward strategy in serving DoD, Civilian, and Intelligence community client requirements as well as the cybersecurity needs of Defense Industrial Base prime contractors.
A 22 year veteran of the Federal IT industry, Tom has worked in progressively more responsible positions at market leaders including Northrop Grumman IT, Falcon Systems, and Zenith Data Systems. A native of Northern Virginia,Tom holds a BBA from James Madison University and a MBA from George Mason University, both in Virginia. Mr. Conway is active in associations such as USO and AFCEA. He maintains an active TS security clearance.
Director, Global Government Relations
John T. Sabo is Director, Global Government Relations for CA Technologies, where he provides leadership and expertise in the use of security and privacy technologies. He focuses on identity and trusted infrastructure technologies, policies, and practices and holds leadership roles in industry and government-led data cyber security, privacy, and critical infrastructure protection initiatives.
Mr. Sabo is an appointed member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee and a past member of the Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board (ISPAB), a federal advisory committee managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He is a contributor to international consultations, such as the European Commission consultation on the "Internet of Things," and as a member of the Privacy and Security Task Force organized by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the State Alliance for e-Health.
He is a board member and past President of the Information Technology-Information Sharing and Analysis Center (IT-ISAC); member of the IT-Sector Coordinating Council, where he also served on the Executive Committee; and Immediate Past Chair of the ISAC Council, which addresses cross-sector information sharing issues impacting national critical sectors. Mr. Sabo is a board member and President of the non-profit International Security Trust and Privacy Alliance (ISTPA), which has published an operational privacy framework and privacy-related studies. He is a member of the IDtrust Member Section Steering Committee in the OASIS standards organization.
Before working in the private sector, Mr. Sabo was Director of the U.S. Social Security Administration's Electronic Services Staff and recognized as a leader in the development of e-government services and privacy-compliant identity systems. He is an invited speaker at international security and privacy conferences, has authored published journal articles, and contributes to technical studies on security, privacy and trust issues. He holds degrees from King's College (Pennsylvania) and the University of Notre Dame, and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
