February 1, 2011 — Everyone in the federal government is being challenged to do more with less.

Host John Gilroy interviews Robynn Sturm, Assistant to the Deputy Director in the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, about using incentives and prizes to help solve problems. She cites examples from NASA, NIH and the Department of Energy.

Sturm and Gilroy discuss Challenge.gov and how it has put the concept of prizes in action. (The website currently has 57 challenges from 27 different agencies listed covering everything from advancing vehicle technology, to small business financing, to type 1 diabetes.)

Tune in as we discuss why prizes work and how the administration is using them to its advantage.
