Agencies' mobile, digital plans aim to unlock data

As part of the far-reaching digital services strategy released in May, most large federal agencies have identified services and resources that could benefit from a digital overhaul.
Specifically, the digital strategy called for agencies to release the underlying data of at least two existing customer-facing services through an application programming interface (API) — essentially "unlocking" the data for use by citizens and developers.
The strategy also required agencies to identify at least two services to optimize for mobile use to ensure access to government resources "anywhere, anytime, on any device," Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel said in a blog post this week.
