May 21, 2013 -- This week on "Federal Tech Talk", host John Gilroy interviews Federal Chief Technology Officer Todd Park, and Bryan Sivak, the chief information officer at the Department of Health and Human Services.

They both have entrepreneurial backgrounds and discuss how opening up federal data sets can improve patient care and reduce costs for healthcare.

In May 2012, Park developed an initiative that encouraged the federal government to produce data that was open and machine readable. It took a year, but in May 2013, President Obama signed an executive order on open data.

Sivak has an oversight role on much of the data that HHS produces. During the interview, Sivak talks about how he is participating in the upcoming Datapalooza event to encourage public/private partnerships that can take federal data sets and apply creative insight to produce solutions for all citizens.

More than 1500 people are expected to attend Datapalooza, which will take place June 3 and 4 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. Tickets are still available.
