AFFIRM honors White House aide for cyber leadership

A White House aide has won an award for leadership in cybersecurity.

Heidi Avery is deputy assistant to the President for homeland security, on the National Security Staff. She is named by AFFIRM at its annual leadership event and honored at a luncheon in Washington Tuesday.

AFFIRM’s selection committee noted Avery’s leadership of a multi-agency steering committee charged with implementing Presidential Order 13-587. The order aims to improve security of the government’s classified networks.

Avery also worked through the Office of Management and Budget to accelerate investments in public-key infrastructure, an encryption technology.
