November 6, 2012Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the few companies that has made the transition from success in the commercial world to success in the federal world.

AWS’s Mark Ryland is the Chief Solutions Architect for their federal space and has wide ranging background that includes interest in technology, law, philosophy, and the study of science.

He joins host John Gilroy on today’s show to talk about how a federal agency can accomplish two seemingly exclusive goals: achieve security and flexibility.

The key is having systems that can be accessed without much human intervention.

Once a relationship is established, a federal IT professional can provision a service in the cloud in a quick and seamless manner.

During the storm damage in East Coast, several agencies certainly had to ramp up services in a secure and effective manner.

Using an elastic cloud service like AWS provides is one key to this flexibility.

During the interview, Ryland will also talk about the success his company has had working with NASA-JPL, NIH, and USDA.
