Bill sets timeframe for VA to contact data breach victims
Thursday - 6/28/2012, 10:19am EDT
The measure would require the department to mail or email veterans whose information may have been stolen or lost, either through a breach of its own data or that of its contractors.
The VA would have to provide a hotline number to call and resources for credit protection and identity theft.
The department now tries to notify victims of data breaches within 30 days.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), said that is not fast enough.
