Correct, efficient information made all the difference during the cleanup from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill last spring and summer.

As the spatial data branch chief in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Response and Restoration, Amy Merten expanded on a new online data system that ended up providing officials with continuous information about the spill.

That work has made her a 2011 Service to America Medal finalist. She joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss how geospatial technology played a role in the new system and her Sammie nomination.
