‘Deck stacked against’ data center consolidation

The Obama administration has challenged federal agencies to consolidate data centers, but “the deck seems stacked against them,” Government Computer News reports.

Agencies face a lack of upfront funding, technical obstacles, unrealistic timelines, and cultural and political problems, GCN reports.

Angie Petty, principal analyst at market research firm Input, told Federal News Radio last week that many federal managers see the consolidation efforts as an “unfunded mandate.”

The reality of its implementation will take “baby steps,” she said.
