The Department of Health and Human Services’ deputy assistant secretary of minority health says improvements in technology will reduce disparities in care in poor and minority populations. Speaking during National Health IT Week in D.C., Garth Graham said people in poor, rural areas with no IT tools have a life expectancy of 15 to 17 years less than people in wealthy, urban areas. Graham cited Hurricane Katrina as an example of how mobile technology could improve the health needs of minorities.
