Analysis: Pathways forces agencies to 'ramp up' recruitment

John Palguta, vice president for policy at the Partnership for Public Service, said the new regulations are an opportunity for agencies to "ramp up their game" when it comes to recruitment.
"The Pathways Program is going to be a great tool that agencies need, but agencies are going to have to do their part to use that tool wisely," Palguta said in an interview with The Federal Drive with Tom Temin.
For example, agencies will have to appoint an intern coordinator. They will also have to rethink how they recruit students and recent graduates.
"It's not enough to post and pray — post the job and pray the right people will see it and apply," Palguta said.
He said agency hiring managers, supervisors and employees doing the jobs will need to go to colleges and universities to actively recruit.
"And if it all comes together, I think we can get some really great people into government, which we need," he said.
