The Business of Government Radio Hour, hosted by Michael J. Keegan, features a conversation with a federal executive who is changing the way government does business. The executives discuss their careers and the management challenges facing their organizations. Guests include administrators, chief financial officers, chief information officers, chief operating officers, commissioners, controllers, directors, and undersecretaries.
Conversation with Authors: Manager's Guide to Evaluating Citizen Participation with Prof. Tina Nabatchi
Dr. Nabatchi is currently engaged in research about citizen engagement. Specifically, she is interested in the roles that citizens can and do play in the work of government. To that end, she is developing theoretical frameworks for understanding the relationships between participatory designs and outcomes, and evaluating various aspects of citizen participation processes. Her research has been published in numerous journals, such as Public Administration Review, Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, National Civic Review, Conflict Resolution Quarterly, and the International Journal of Conflict Management, among others, as well as in several edited books. Her article, "Addressing the Citizenship and Democratic Deficits: Exploring the Potential of Deliberative Democracy for Public Administration" won the 2010 Best Article Award from The American Review of Public Administration. She is also the leader editor of Democracy in Motion: Evaluating the Practice and Impact of Deliberative Civic Engagement (Oxford University Press, 2012).
Before joining the Maxwell School, Dr. Nabatchi was the Research Coordinator for the Indiana Conflict Resolution Institute at Indiana University-Bloomington, where she was responsible for the design, implementation, analysis, and publication of various research projects. In this capacity, she provided consultations about and evaluations of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in several U.S. federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, the United States Postal Service, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution.
Dr. Nabatchi holds a BA in political science from The American University, an MPA from The University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from Indiana University-Bloomington.
