The Census Bureau is six months into the first restructuring of its field offices in 50 years.

When Census announced the 18-month restructuring, it cited a need to "keep pace with modern survey collection methods" and a need to reduce costs by as much as $18 million each year.

Thomas Mesenbourg, the deputy director of the Census Bureau, joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss how the restructuring is going.

Mesenbourg discussed the personnel changes, the cost-savings and some lessons learned for other agencies.
