Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel joined Federal News Radio for a free online chat to discuss the White House’s priorities to improve federal technology.

VanRoekel took questions from chat participants on a range of topics including knowledge sharing in the acquisition space, shared services, cloud computing, PortfolioStat, working with the private sector, and more.

VanRoekel has been federal CIO since August 2011. Prior to his position in the White House, VanRoekel served as executive director of Citizen and Organizational Engagement at the U.S. Agency for International Development, and as managing director of the Federal Communications Commission. Before joining the Obama administration, VanRoekel worked at Microsoft Corporation from 1994 to 2009, most recently as a senior director in the Windows Server and Tools Division.
